Experts on photo books and publishing will also share their perspectives on what it takes to make a great photo book now, and what factors make some publications-from self-published zines to large photographic volumes-outstanding and lasting works. They will also share favorite examples of inspiring photo books and zines. Photographers, award-winning designers and editors will discuss how the choice of format, sequencing, typeface, layout, trim size, pacing and typesetting shape the readers’ experience of photographic narratives. In the course of four sessions, curators and scholars will discuss their criteria when evaluating and exhibiting photo books to the public. This seminar, aimed at both collectors and photographers, looks at how photographers can use design and editing to publish books that best express their ideas and goals, and how photo connoisseurs evaluate photo books as art objects. ![]() There are now more exhibitions, festivals and publications devoted to photo books than ever before, but the market for collectible photo books is ever changing, and photographic artists now have a wide range of choices when deciding how to publish their work.
